Nephopolis 네포폴리스
2022
Drawing installation; Pen on paper
9 parts; each 29,7 x 34,7 cm
The title Nephopolis is a made-up word of two ancient Greek words; nephos, meaning clouds and polis, city. The work mixes two main motives: skyscrapers and clouds. Continuing our recurrent building motif from two previous artworks, Koti Ikävä and Cīvis, the work also borrows the lavish-colored cloud motifs from 19th century Joseon dynasty court painting The Cranes and Peaches of Immortality by the Sea.
